MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES 6 - 8 CRITERIA FOR PROMOTION
Students must successfully complete academic courses as follows per S. 1003.4156:
1. Three courses in middle grades (or higher) English/Language Arts. These courses shall emphasize literature, composition, and informational/ technical text.
2. Three courses in middle grades (or higher) Mathematics. Each middle school must offer at least one high school level mathematics course for which students may earn high school credit.
3. Three courses in middle grades (or higher) social studies, one semester of which must include the study of state and federal government and civics education.
4. Three courses in middle grades (or higher) science.
5. One course in Career and Educational Planning (or an equivalent course as listed in the Course Code Directory to be completed in the 7th or 8th grade).
